FITZROY HOUSE

is material minimisation, not substitution.

sustainability is a house hold name these days, The modern strategy in design is to exchange materials for those with lower embodied energy.

Fitzroy house was an exercise in space utility. A 55sqm apartment was built on the idea of utilising the ‘unused’ space that dwells just below the ample 3.7m high ceilings. by lifting the bedroom and bathroom above the standard floor level, a sub-floor storage volume was established thereby removing the need for additional joinery, doors and lighting - minimising material waste and reducing cost.
